Between 15 and 17 November Transilvania University organized, with the support of Brasov City Hall and of a number of cultural institutions and ethnic communities in Brasov, the 16th edition of Etnovember 2014. The festival included 34 events, out of which 19 architecture, design, photography, watercolour and ceramics exhibitions, five concerts, two book launches and two theatrical performances.

On the 21st of May, the third edition of the Conference GRADUATES MEET COMPANIES - AFCO 2014 brought together approximately 170 student participants and over 100 representatives of more than 40 companies from all over the country. Like with the previous editions, the goal of this year's conference was to promote the dialogue between our students (particularly those in their senior year) and potential employers.

Designed as a hub for exchanging ideas and expertise between students, professors and representatives from the business sector, The Companies' Showcase is a joint project of our University and business companies such as Miele Tehnica, Stabilus, Premium Aerotec, Autoliv, Schaeffler, Siemens, LMS, Draexlmaier, Preh and Renault. The Companies' Showcase is targeted at fostering continual dialogue between students and representatives from the business sector.

The first edition of Entrepreneurship, the programming marathon co-organized by Allview Company and the Centre for Public Democracy in partnership with Transilvania University and The City hall of Brasov concluded with a festive event held at the Aula Magna on the 29th of March. During a 24-hour marathon, ten teams consisting of students from the university centres of Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Bucuresti and Constanta developed social utility Android applications.

‘Life with the mountaineering “heavyweights” is very demanding, and Kilimanjaro - one of the “7 heavyweight challengers” in the world (The Seven Summits) - is the most difficult climb in Africa’, says Florin-Bogdan Nastase, master student at the Faculty of Wood Engineering. ‘The heavyweight of Europe, Elbrus in the Caucasus Range, and its younger brother, Mont Blanc have trained me physically and mentally: both peaks of Kilimanjaro were conquered and I could proudly watch our University’s flag stand tall above the summits.'

NI Week (August 2013, SUA) also hosted the „National Instruments Graphical System Design Achievement Award” contest. Transilvania University, by Petru A. Cotfas and Daniel T. Cotfas (Departament of Electronics and Computers) won the NI GSDAA Award for Education and the NI Community's Choice and Editor's Choice Awards for the paper titled „Developing a Renewable Energy Laboratory Using NI ELVIS, NI LabVIEW, and NI myDAQ”.

The International Summer School “Sustainable Smart Metropolitan Regions of Tomorrow” was organised as a joint venture between the Research Centre for Renewable Energy Systems and Recycling ESREC and ESEIA (European Sustainable Energy Innovation Association).Within ESEIA Group representatives from 5 countries drafted a joint strategy aimed at accessing EU funding for projects.

On the 25 of June there took place the annual festivities commending the top students who completed the undergraduate programmes in each of the eighteen faculties within our University. The University management presented the winners with diplomas and gifts, to which the local County Council generously added cash prizes. The festivities concluded with a cocktail offered by the University, during which graduates provided informal feedback on their student life, the study programmes they completed, and the research activities they had been involved in.

On 24 May the second edition of the Graduates meet Companies Conference took place in the University's Aula Magna. Statistically, the event can be described as follows: 33 company representatives, 169 graduates presenting their posters, and a turnout consisting of about 400 people. Beyond such raw figures lies an eventful and exciting day. The official opening of the conference was an opportunity for our partners from outside the Academia to introduce their frameworks for cooperation with the University.

Between 2 and 7 of April Transilvania University of Brașov opened wide its gates to welcome high school students from all over the country, who called on us during the “Know more, be better” week. Designed as a less formal way of learning, an opportunity afforded the younger generation to understand how to develop professionally and become more committed members of the community, the activities organised on this occasion allowed academics to impart various aspects of their scholarly work.

This year, which marks the 65th anniversary of our University, the 1st of March opened the way for a new yearly tradition: the celebration of the Day of Transilvania University through a day-long series of high profile events which took place in parallel on the University premises as well as at different venues in the city. Between 8th and 15th February the National Bank of Romania (NBR) in partnership with Transilvania University of Brașov organized ACADEMICA NBR, an educational project which brought together representatives from over twenty universities (Rectors, Vice-Rectors, business specialists from the academia), National Bank specialists (executive level), as well as representatives of the Romanian Banking Institute and the Romanian Academy.

The showroom in the Auditorium Hall displays the Modern Classics Collection, an assembly of furniture items by XXth century designers. The collection consists of 27 valuable pieces, each representing a landmark in the evolution of the XXth century design. Our University is the only owner of such rare items worldwide, which makes the collection one of a kind.

Between the 17th and the 19th of November took place, under the aegis of Transilvania University of Brașov, the 14th edition of the ETNOVEMBER Festival, a cultural event supported by the City Hall and the Local Council of Brașov. This highly publicized event is a cultural landmark: it is included in most national and international travel guides and tourist brochures advertising Transylvanian attractions.

“El Betonito”, as the sports ground next to the students' residence hall on the University Campus is nicknamed, has always been the meeting point for our students, the place where they could practise sports, train for competitions, or just relax. On its 18th anniversary, El Betonito has to put on a brand new face. This has been an initiative supported and implemented jointly by the Vice-Rector's Office for Students and Liaison with the Economic and Socio-Cultural Community, the Technical-Administrative Office, and students.

11even – 11 successful experiences reported on within 11 minutes – an event hosted by Reduta Art Centre on May 30th. The evening's star attraction was the University's single-seater racing car BS2011, showcased in the main lobby of the Art Centre by  BlueStreamline, the competition team of Transilvania University. The team's presence at the event was anything but incidental. It competed with the BS 2011 single-seater at Silverstone and in the Varano Circuit.

An alumnus of Transilvania University, Leonard Orban – Minister of European Affairs (the first Romanian European Commissioner) took part, on the 6th of April, in the regional conference on 'Increasing the absorption of structural funds'. Whilst aware of the difficulties involved in the process of securing European funds, Mr. Orban stated that 'by the close of 2011 Romania had absorbed 1.2 billion Euros, but this year we need to attract three times as much'.

The 1st of March witnessed the official opening of the Research and Development Institute within Transilvania University of Braşov. Converging top quality resources, the RTD Institute provides the ideal framework for the 27 research departments within Transilvania University to perform their activities in a state-of-the-art infrastructure, completed primarily through the RD Institute project PRO-DD.
