Hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, this event was first organized in 2003; it started out as a national symposium on English language and English and American literature. Over the years, this Conference has broadened its scope by including more areas of scholarly interest and hence, more academics in and outside Romania.
In its current format, this annual event is a forum where senior and junior researchers from various Universities meet and exchange ideas, keeping current with the latest developments in research areas such as Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Semiotics, Cultural Studies, Literature and Literary Criticism, whilst also contributing to the growth and continued updating of these fields.
We have so far been fortunate to welcome participants from Bucharest University, Bucharest Polytechnic, the Al. I. Cuza University of Iasi, the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the University of Pitesti, the University of Ploiesti, The University of the West – Timisoara, the North University – Baia Mare, the Dunarea de Jos University of Galati, etc.; we have equally enjoyed the opportunity to meet with fellow academics from Lancaster University (UK), the University of Connecticut (USA), the University of Cagliari (Italy), Budapest University (Hungary). All their contributions have been reviewed and published in a collective volume issued on a yearly basis.
On behalf of both the organizers and members of the editing board, I would like to express our appreciation for the efforts and good will of those who have, over the years, contributed (cognitively or otherwise) to the success of these events.
