Occupational Safety and Health Engineering

Major field of study – Industrial Engineering. The duration of this programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credit points). This programme aims to train engineers capable of coordinating industrial security activities. European Union’s legislation concerning health and safety in the workplace was passed to cover a maximum number of risks by a minimum number of norms. Framework Directive 89/391/CE (implemented in Romania by Law 319/2006 – Work Safety and Health Law). Better working conditions must be provided on the European Union territory with the help of the European Union’s actions – higher safety at the workplace, evaluation of occupational risks and protection measures. Well-being at the workplace is considered by calculating both physical risks and psycho-social ones.  Moreover, employers must identify ways to minimize risks at the workplace and specialists trained in this field can identify and prevent them more easily. Employers, with the help of specialists that will be trained to identify and prevent risks at the workplace, will be capable of providing safety and a high satisfaction level for their employees and will avoid penalties due to failure to obey legislation or maybe lack of knowledge regarding laws in the field. European legislation involves the same level of protection and compliance with minimum conditions regarding health and safety in the workplace for all member states.
