Workshop: Critical Thinking and Media Literacy
30 June 2025, 11.30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., “Sergiu T. Chiriacescu” International Conference Centre, UI 7 room
In an era of information overload, the development of the critical thinking and media education skills is essential to forming active and responsible citizens. This interactive workshop aims at providing the attendees with a practical and theoretical framework for understanding and applying the critical thinking in the analysis of media content.
Starting from the dual process theory (System 1 – fast and intuitive vs. System 2 – deliberate and analytical), the participants will learn how to identify cognitive and emotional traps when interpreting information. Through applied exercises, debates and comparative analysis of video materials, they will also explore how fragmentation, selection and presentation influence the perception of reality. The workshop focuses on the understanding of the media through the lens of multiple perspectives.
Target public: Teachers, high-school pupils, students, trainers, journalists, communication experts and everyone interested in developing an independent thinking and a critical relationship with the media environment.
