  • The launch of the European Alliance UNITA project

The launch of the European Alliance UNITA project

02 November 2023

Transilvania University of Brașov is now part of the UNITA University Alliance, a consortium consisting of 10 European universities located in regions where Romance languages are spoken, including mountainous, rural, or border areas. On November 2-3, 2023, the Savoie Mont Blanc University in France hosted the launch events for the Erasmus+ project "UNITA Universitas Montium," which will provide financial support for the Alliance's goals over the next four years. The total budget for this project is 14 million Euros, with Transilvania University receiving an allocation of 1.2 million euros.

As a member of the UNITA Alliance, Transilvania University will contribute to the development and testing of new best practices in European higher education concerning education, research, and institutional governance. The focus will be on developing joint study programmes for both undergraduate and master's degrees, supporting student and faculty mobility, including rural placements, forming interdisciplinary research teams, creating a system for accessing the research infrastructure of partner institutions, developing collaborative doctoral programs, establishing an integrated digital campus, and enhancing continuous training programs. Additionally, a major goal of the Alliance is to align policies related to human resource management, quality assurance, and administrative processes, all based on a shared set of values and a common vision of the future.

During the rectors' meeting at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, the rector of the Transilvania University of Brașov, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ioan Vasile Abrudan, reaffirmed the commitment to implement the UNITA project and emphasized the importance of building a sustainable community, both within the Alliance and in collaboration with representatives of the regions in which the 10 universities operate.

The following universities are part of the UNITA Alliance: the University of Beira Interior and the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (Portugal), the University of Zaragoza and the Public University of Navarra (Spain), the University of Turin and the University of Brescia (Italy), the University of Pau et des Pays de L'Adour and the Savoie Mont Blanc University (France), the West University of Timișoara, and Transilvania University of Brașov (Romania). Additionally, two associated partners actively participate in all activities aimed at implementing the UNITA vision: the Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale (Switzerland) and the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (Ukraine).
