UNITBV Invested 40 Million Lei in the City's Cultural Heritage

20 December 2023

Over the past 12 years, Transilvania University of Brașov has invested 40 million lei towards the rehabilitation and restoration of buildings within Brasov's historic center. This substantial investment aimed to restore the original charm and architecture of all six historic buildings owned by the university, transforming them into focal points of attraction for both residents and tourists visiting Brașov.

Throughout this period, extensive restoration and renovation works have been undertaken on these historic buildings, addressing interior and exterior aspects. Notably, the most significant renovation was carried out on the Rectorate building. The façade restoration alone took two years, being unveiled in 2019. The project encompassed repairs to masonry, roofing, cleaning decorative elements, murals, and statues. Subsequently, interior renovations ensued, culminating in the complete rehabilitation of the building.

In 2020, restoration and rehabilitation efforts expanded to the ”T” building (along Eroilor Boulevard, near Aro Hotel), ”S” building (adjacent to Ecaterina's Gate), ”N” building (on Republicii Boulevard), ”K” building (on N. Bălcescu Street), and ”R” building (on Castelului Street). In the last three years, over 10 million lei have been invested solely in these five buildings. Moreover, ongoing rehabilitation efforts continue internally to ensure that learning spaces align with the standards of a true international university.

The restoration strictly adhered to recommendations from the Ministry of Culture and original building sketches. This meticulous approach aimed to revive architecture, stuccos, and other ornamental elements. Skilled plastic artists, sculptors, and architects specialised in conserving and restoring historic monuments were brought to Brasov for this purpose.

The university's buildings situated in Brașov's central area contribute significantly to the city's historical landscape. Each building narrates valuable chapters of Brasov's architectural history. Therefore, these structures don't just belong to Transilvania University of Brașov; they belong to the city and its inhabitants.

Transilvania University of Brașov encompasses 21 buildings dedicated to educational activities across various city areas. These include 13 dormitories, 2 refectories, and a Research and Development Institute comprising 12 high-energy-efficient buildings.
