Towards Industry 4.0: exploring innovations in education and research at UNITBV within the European NeedEDU4.0 project

3-7 June 2024

Transilvania University of Brașov hosted, between 3 and 7 June 2024, the study visit of the delegation that brought together representatives of the Technical University of Moldova, “Alecu Russo” State University of Bălți, “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” State University of Cahul, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, as well as of Fritz Dräxlmaier GmbH & Co. KG company, Germany, and ICS DRA Dräxlmaier Automotive SRL company, Republic of Moldova, all of them members in the “Enhancing Mechanical Engineering Education in Moldova for Industry 4.0” (NeedEDU4.0) project consortium, under the grant agreement 101128623, ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE-STRAND-2, financed with the support of the European Commission.

The agenda of the study visit was varied and significant, and the planned activities facilitated the acquisition of unique experiences, necessary for the good implementation of the NeedEDU4.0 project. In addition to the overview of the study programme offer in the field of mechanical/automotive/industrial engineering of Transilvania University of Brașov, with an emphasis on five master’s degree study programmes of relevance for the colleagues from the universities of the Republic of Moldova (“Simulation and Testing in Mechanical Engineering”, “Practical Integrated Methods for Propulsion Systems Engineering”, “Virtual Engineering in Automotive Design”, “Mechatronic Systems for Industry and Medicine”, “Engineering of Advanced Manufacturing Processes”), the members of the NeedEDU4.0 project consortium became acquainted with elements related to the design, implementation and quality assurance of the study programmes, as well as with aspects related to the digitalization of the education process. The visit to the Research and Development Institute of UNITBV and to Dräxlmaier Company, in the town of Codlea, were other instructive experiences regarding the various technologies adapted to Industry 4.0, respectively to the current research pursuits in the specific fields of this industry.

All this elicited interesting and useful discussions on the learning outcomes and the contents associated with the master’s degree programme to be jointly developed by the Technical University of Moldova, “Alecu Russo” State University of Bălți, and “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” State University of Cahul, in the framework of NeedEDU4.0 project.
