Transilvania Creative Camp 2025
22 - 28 August 2025, Târgu Lăpuș
The fourth edition of Transilvania Creative Camp, a project of the Faculty of Sociology and Communication within Transilvania University of Brașov, brings Romanian and foreign students together again in a summer school to be held in Lăpuș Country. For seven days, the participants will discover and promote the cultural heritage and local traditions, through courses, creative workshops and meetings with the communities of this region. Moreover, the youth will enjoy authentic experiences in one of Romania’s most picturesque tourist destinations.
Transilvania Creative Camp will take place between 22 and 28 August 2025 in the town of Târgu Lăpuș and several neighbouring villages. The participants will attend courses and workshops, but also field activities, in which they will experience the daily life in the villages across Lăpuș Country, and will propose promotional solutions for the potential visitors to this region.
The 25 participating students represent 11 nationalities and come from nine universities. Five of these are members in the UNITA University Alliance - University of Zaragoza (Spain), University of Turin (Italy), Savoie Mont Blanc University (France), Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (Portugal) and Transilvania University of Brașov (Romania) - and the other partners are Marche Polytechnic University (Italy), Dunaújváros University (Hungary), Stuttgart Media University (Germany) and Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow (Poland). The project partners, represented exclusively through professors, are Meisei University of Tokyo (Japan) and The Pennsylvania State University (Unites States).
This year as well, five pupils of “Petru Rareș” Theoretical High-School, Târgu Lăpuș, will work in five mixed teams. Each team will capitalize on their diverse skills to conduct research and promote the region, having as a starting point one of the topics proposed by the organizers: a) traditions, folklore and folk costumes; b) wooden churches and history of the sites; c) gastronomy; d) crafts and field work in the villages of Lăpuș Country; e) beauty and richness of the natural heritage. The participants will collect information through interviews, direct observation, photo-video materials and documentaries. Under the guidance of the professors involved in this project, they will integrate these data into concrete promotional proposals: films, leaflets and other materials for the social media.
“I come back with a new edition of this project in the place where I was born and spent the first six years of my life, as well as all my pupil and student holidays, Târgu Lăpuș. After the success of the previous editions, I am certain that Transilvania Creative Camp 2025 will turn out a success, too. This conviction is based not only on the accumulated experience, but also on the participating students’ diversity and motivation, which I felt after the first two online stages. I would like to thank the Town Hall of Târgu Lăpuș, “Petru Rareș” Theoretical High-School, as well as the Village Halls of Băiuț, Cupșeni, Groșii Țibleșului, Lăpuș, Suciu de Sus and Vima Mică for their openness and enthusiasm in supporting this project.” – declared Assoc. Prof. Dr. Florin Nechita, coordinator of Transilvania Creative Camp.
“The Town Hall of Târgu Lăpuș supports all the projects with real potential for the promotion of Lăpuș Country. The collaboration with prestigious universities in the country and abroad is beneficial for all partners involved. Our region offers manifold opportunities for the development of sustainable tourism, to the benefit of the local communities. The active involvement of “Petru Rareș” Theoretical High-School is another strength of this project.” – declared Vlad Herman, Mayor of Târgu Lăpuș town.
The participants in Transilvania Creative Camp 2025 will explore, for a week, the rich natural, historical and cultural heritage of Lăpuș Country. Based on the video footage to be achieved during the project, two presentation films in English about this region will be produced and made available to the Town Hall of Târgu Lăpuș and to the neighbouring village halls. As in the previous editions, the collected data will be capitalized on in scientific research projects, and the conclusions will be published in academic journals, and will be presented in national and international conferences.
