First place for the UNITBV students at SIOMMS 2025 International Competition

The student team of Transilvania University of Brașov succeeded in ranking first at the sixth edition of Students International Olympiad on Mechanism and Machine Science (SIOMMS 2025), the prestigious competition which took place between 26 and 28 November 2025, at Satbayev University of Almaty, Kazakhstan, under the aegis of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (FToMM).
This edition was attended by eleven teams coming from six countries, with Romania participating for the first time in the competition. The team of Transilvania University of Brașov, consisting of Ivan Paul Andrei (4th year in the Automotive Engineering study programme, taught in English, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), as well as Codreanu Ștefan-Cristian and Stanciu Ștefan (4th year in the Aerospace Engineering study programme, Faculty of Technological Engineering and Industrial Management), succeeded in making a powerful impression on the jury.
The 4-hour competition test required their solving eight complex problems, covering an extensive curriculum in the analysis of mechanisms, mechanical transmissions, dynamics and telehandlers.
At the end of the competition, SIOMMS 2025 scientific panel highly appreciated the UNITBV team’s level of training, and awarded them the First Prize, for overtaking strong teams, such as the ones of China, Russia or Spain, with ongoing participation in SIOMMS. Furthermore, the best two test papers belonged to the students of Transilvania University of Brașov, namely Stanciu Ștefan and Ivan Paul Andrei, who were conferred the Individual Excellence Award for achieving the Highest Individual Score diploma.

The next edition of SIOMMS International Competition is scheduled in the month of April 2026, at Weihai, China.
