Chamber Jazz @ Transilvania University: Sorin Romanescu and Răzvan Cipcă
6 February 2026, at 7:00 p.m., Studio 181 room, Rectorate building, Transilvania University of Brașov
Within the cultural programme Chamber Jazz @ Transilvania University, this year’s first concert brings to the audience of Brașov the first guitar duo in the ten-year history of the series, a successful collaboration between Sorin Romanescu and Răzvan Cipcă.
This new project, based on the original compositions of each of the two musicians, as well as on reinterpreted standards, will bring their guitar resonances in a unique fusion on the stage of Studio 181 room, in the Rectorate building of Transilvania University.
Sorin Romanescu, a musician with a wealth of experience, is one of the most important guitarists in the Romanian jazz landscape. After the debut in the 90s, his musical activity went beyond the borders of jazz and improvisation. He was a bass player in Sarmalele Reci band, he composed music for contemporary dance projects, and he is a constant collaborator in Alexandru Andrieș’ music projects. Composer and audio producer, his name is associated with advertising campaigns, but also with documentary or artistic films such as Tănase Affair, directed by Ionuț Teianu (nomination for music at Gopo Awards), Cold Waves – directed by Alexandru Solomon, or the feature film Dogs – directed by Răzvan Mirică, which brought him the Gopo Award for best original music.
His activity as a jazz musician implies collaborations with artists of all generations, such as Marius Popp, Garbis Dedeian, Romeo Cozma, Nicolas Simion, Mihai Iordache, Vlaicu Golcea, Maria Răducanu, Luiza Zan, Ruxandra Zamfir, and many more.
His concert appearances cover a wide stylistic variety, from standards to avant-garde music. He is a collaborator or co-author in musical projects totalling over 20 albums.
Răzvan Filip Cipcă is a prestigious guitarist and composer of jazz. He attended the courses of the National University of Music, in Bucharest, where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz composition.
His creation has been enriched by echoes from various genres of music, such as blues, rock, old Hollywood movie music, American folk music, parlour music or experimental music - all reunited in the open framework that jazz offers him. The main influences of his music thus dwell on the music of the past, but his gaze is always forwards – towards new stylistic and sound combinations and explorations, as well as towards understanding the tradition of various music genres in today’s context.
We will be therefore waiting for you on Friday, 6 February 2026, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the Multicultural Centre of Transilvania University (29 Eroilor Blvd.). The entrance is free, within the limit of available seats.
