Launch of WeNaTour Alliance’s educational offer to train experts in sustainable tourism
23 February 2026
WeNaTour European Consortium has just launched its 2026 training offer, respectively two free online courses. Their curricula aim at training the new generation of tourism professionals, providing them with the essential skills to support the transition of this vital economic sector towards sustainable, resilient, inclusive and nature-based tourism models.
The 2026 training offer is organised around two complementary courses, each adapted to a specific public and a well-defined learning objective: an e-learning course (second edition) with academic recognition, and a microcredential course, both ensuring professional excellence in sustainable tourism and destination management.
The WeNaTour sustainable tourism e-learning course: Welfare, Nature and Innovation in Tourismhas an open online format with massive participation (MOOC), and its completion ensures mastery over the fundamental pillars of sustainability in this field. With a varied and attractive workload of theoretical and applied activities, totalling 150 hours, the course can be integrated into formal higher-education programmes. It addresses the professionals eager to strengthen their academic profile and to rekindle their creativity, but also the students in programmes under the field of tourism or related fields, as its successful completion provides a certificate equivalent to 6 ECTS credits. Registrations are open.
The WeNaTour sustainable tourism microcredential course: Nature-based Tourism for Wellness and Healthaims for excellence in leadership within the fast-growing sectors of future tourism, offering training and internationally recognised micro-credentials in this regard. With a flexible learning curriculum, spanning 92 hours, grouped into four stand-alone modules, the course addresses tourism professionals, newcomers to sustainable tourism, and lifelong learners. Pre-registrations are open.
The first edition of the WeNaTour online course engaged more than 400 participants from all over Europe and even other continents. Among them, 16 students with outstanding results, coming from Colombia, Türkiye, Norway, Georgia, Romania, Spain, Germany, Austria and Italy completed an advanced four-week specialization programme, which included a two-week mobility to Italy and Austria, funded by the European Union and hosted by the local project partners.
The WeNaTour project, a far-reaching initiative financed through the Erasmus+ programme, is coordinated by the University of Padova (Italy) and implemented by a consortium of 12 partners across five European countries, which includes Transilvania University of Brașov. The main reason for its establishment is the provision of support in the transition to sustainability, against the backdrop of current challenges in the tourism sector, such as climate change and overcrowding, through solutions based on the integration of the environmental, social and governance principles (ESG framework) into tourism strategies. One project goal is the development of a new professional profile, namely Sustainability Manager for Tourism Destinations, capable of combining managerial skills with sustainability expertise, capacity for innovation, and power to attract local communities, in support of their transition to regenerative tourism.
