UNITA 2026 Photo Contest

Deadline: 31 May 2026

UNITA 2026 Photo Contest offers the members in the Alliance’s universities the opportunity to share their experiences and visions on European identity and citizenship. Within this edition, the photographs themed on European diversity and European cultural heritage will be highly valued.

The entries will be assessed by the jury based on their artistic relevance and connection to the aforementioned theme. The author of the winning image will be rewarded with 150 €. Moreover, the awarded pictures will enjoy visibility, since UNITA will display the photographs in several marketing initiatives, such as its own website and social platforms, advertisements, in each university’s electronic bulletins, e-newsletters, programme brochures, exhibitions, and more. The author will be systematically credited for his achievement.

UNITA Photo Contest is open to all students, teaching and research personnel, as well as administrative staff in the Alliance’s member institutions. The photos must have been taken by the applicant him/herself, be original, and have been neither previously exhibited nor entered into another competition. Each participant may apply only once, either with a single photograph, or with a photo essay/series (a maximum of 3 images related to each other).

The photos must be accompanied by a suggestive title and an explanatory text (below 300 characters, with spaces) for each submitted image. These texts will be written in the competitor’s native language (Romanian for UNITBV), and aimed at clarifying the author’s intention and at strengthening the connection between the visual material and the concepts of European citizenship/identity.

Please send the photographs and related texts to the email address unita@unitbv.ro. In the body of the message, you must include the following:

Full name
Location of the image
A brief statement made by the artist, according to which the photo is an original piece of work and the fruit of his/her own endeavours
You will also have to include this statement in the body of your email “I ____(type your full name here)___ give UNITA the permission to capitalise on my photos for promotional purposes in both print and web materials.”

You may participate in the contest with either a single image or a photo essay/series (a maximum of 3 images related to each other). As regards both options (single photo or interconnected series), the image-related technical requirements are the same:
File format: JPEG
Maximum file size: 10 MB
Greatest side length: 2000 px
File resolution: 72 dpi
The file should be renamed (for SINGLE IMAGE): TransilvaniaUniversityBrasov_surname_first name_ title of the photograph.jpeg… (for example: UNITBV_John_Johnson_EuropeanCitizen.jpeg
The file should be renamed (for SERIES): TransilvaniaUniversityBrasov_surname_first name_01title.jpeg…UNITBV_ surname_first name_02title.jpeg … etc.

The identifiable persons in the images must have given their written consent prior to the submission of the competition entry.

The applications will be made to the email address unita@unitbv.ro.

Deadline for the submission of photos: 31 May 2026

Entries received after this time limit or deemed inappropriate will not be considered.
