UNITBV, double gold medallist at “Student Games Riga 2026” International Swimming Competition

Elena Bianca Botezatu, a student of the Faculty of Physical Education and Mountain Sports within Transilvania University of Brașov, has won two gold medals at “XLI SELL Student Games 2026” International University Swimming Competition, in Riga, Latvia, this weekend. Elena won the gold in the 100 metre-butterfly and 100-metre backstroke events. The battle for the medal was tight. However, in both finals, our student succeeded in outperforming the athletes of the host country, as well as other students from Finland, Sweden, Lithuania or Ukraine.
The 2026 edition of “XLI SELL Student Games” took place in Riga, Latvia, this weekend, where it brought together over 1,100 students from 17 countries, to compete in 14 sports disciplines. Our country was represented by Elena Bianca Botezatu, mentored and coached by Lect. Simona Tomele, PhD, a member in the academic teaching personnel of the Faculty of Physical Education and Mountain Sports.
This success marks Romania’s second participation in the prestigious international student competition.
