UNITBV, quality representation at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

22 - 27 September 2026

Transilvania University of Brașov will be represented at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the greatest and largest-scale international competition dedicated to vocational and technical skills, by a team of three, namely two students and an expert, alongside the official observers and support members of the Romanian delegation.

Between 22 and 27 September 2026, Miruna-Ioana Ungureanu and Dumitru-Vlad Crepșe, both of them students at the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, will compete in the Mechatronics event, one of the 11 sections under which Romania will participate in this year’s edition.

The Mechatronics section comes under the broader Manufacturing and Engineering Technology category, and is, as always, one of the most interesting, challenging and complex competitive events, where the participants, during four days, will showcase their skills in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assembly, in programming and commissioning, in troubleshooting and optimization of complex mechatronic systems.

As regards the UNITBV team, their vocational and technical skill development takes place in the Centre for Excellence Training in Mechatronics, at the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, Transilvania University of Brașov, under the coordination of Prof. Eng. Luciana Cristea, PhD – WorldSkills expert, Prof. Eng. Marius Cristian Luculescu, PhD, Prof. Eng. Codruța Ileana Jaliu, PhD, Lect. Eng. Leonard Gabriel Mitu, PhD, and Eng. Sebastian Ovidiu Ștefan.

Deemed the equivalent of the Olympic Games in terms of trades, the prestigious WorldSkills contest brings together about 1,400 competitors from 70 countries and regions, who showcase their skills in 64 competitive sections, from IT, mechatronics and robotics, to industry, civil engineering and services.

Therefore, Transilvania University of Brașov reconfirms its commitment to forming the specialists of the future and to enhancing performance in the engineering and technological fields once again, through the participation of the Mechatronics team in one of the most prominent international competitions dedicated to vocational and technical skills.

In recent years, the UNITBV mechatronist students have enjoyed outstanding success and ongoing rise in these competitions: 3 medals of excellence at EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023, WorldSkills Lyon 2024 and EuroSkills Herning 2025, as well as the Best of Nation Award, won last year in the section with the top results for the entire Romanian delegation.

Romania will attend WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 with a 45-person delegation, consisting of competitors, experts, support team and observers; and their participation is coordinated by WorldSkills Romania, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, institutions of education and economic partners, and benefits from the support of the Erasmus+ programme.
