UNITBV, actively involved in the award of EU-funded social scholarships

10 September 2026

Transilvania University of Brașov has committed itself to providing the students from disadvantaged backgrounds and groups with social scholarships, through European funds. By July 2026, this initiative had already reached over 36,000 students across the country, offering them thereby the necessary financial support to continue their studies

This support comes under the project Interventions for Tertiary Education – Systemic Measures to Prevent and Reduce University Dropout, SMIS code 322473, which targets a greater access to higher education and a bigger number of young people retained in the educational system. One of the project actions is the provision of social scholarships to the students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a view to facilitating their academic access, participation, persistence and continuity.

Nationwide, in the 44 participating higher education institutions, the student grantees received scholarships in full amount, on a monthly basis. The amounts allocated so far reached almost 157 million RON, actually transferred to the students, as over 174,000 scholarships.

Within Transilvania University of Brașov, over 8700 scholarships were granted to 1927 de students, from the month of March to July. Thus, these students benefited from full-rate scholarships worth 925 RON/month, totalling almost 8.1 million RON.

In addition to the financial support, the students had access to 10 webinars, organised between 8 and 12 June, which brought together about 4,000 participants. Their topics addressed the challenges of student life: effective learning techniques, stress and time management, awareness of university-provided rights and benefits, as well as preparation for the completion of studies.

Starting from the questions raised during these meetings, a practical toolkit was designed, as a set of resources which the students can resume any time, each at his/her own pace. These materials cover essential topics for their academic journey – from time and learning management, through stress coping techniques, legal awareness, to graduation thesis/diploma project guidelines. Albeit addressing all students, regardless of their study year or field, they were mostly designed as auxiliary resources for the social scholarship grantees and for the students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

This activity is implemented within the project “Interventions for Tertiary Education – Systemic Measures to Prevent and Reduce University  Dropout”, SMIS code 322473, conducted by the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, co-financed from the European Social Fund+, through the Education and Employment Programme for 2021-2027, as well as from the national budget.
