BlueStreamline racing team of UNITBV, once again triumphant at Formula Student Spain!

7 August 2024

BlueStreamline, the student team of Transilvania University of Brașov, achieved another outstanding success in the 14th edition of Formula Student Spain competition. This is one of the most prestigious international competitions dedicated to young engineers.

This year, the team competed with its 15th single-seat race car, BS24, the outcome of the strenuous work of 24 students at various faculties of our university, coordinated by Professor Mihai Comșiț. For eight months, these young people have dedicated their knowledge and passion for engineering to the development of the high-performance vehicle, and their work pays off again. With a single-seat race car built from scratch by the students of Brașov, the team of Transilvania University outranked 47 teams.

“The 2024 achievement is not a fortuity, but the confirmation of last season’s top-level performance, when we were triple Formula Student champions in three competitions. This year, our students outperformed their competitors in the endurance, efficiency and acceleration challenges, where BS24 came out on top, which made them Formula Student Spain champions, with their 2024 single-seater”, declared Professor Mihai Comșiț.

The team attended the competition in Spain with three single-seaters. Besides the racing car with which they won the competition, the students of Brașov also competed with two other single-seaters at Formula Student Spain Classic Cup. BS09, the first single-seater built by the team 15 years ago, finished 3rd overall, also taking home the awards Most Spectacular Car and Classic Car. In fact, the BS09 single-seater was piloted by the BlueStreamline team’s coordinating professor himself. Moreover, the single-seater BS16, built in 2016, obtained the 2nd place overall.

In addition to the success in Spain, BlueStreamline will be participating in other important Formula Student competitions all over Europe:Formula Student Balkans, Formula Student Poland and Formula Student Alpe Adria.

Formula Student Competitions are events that challenge student teams to conceive, design, manufacture, develop and compete with small racing cars on Formula One circuits.

Established in 2008, BlueStreamline was the initiative of a group of enthusiastic students at Transilvania University of Brașov, with a view to creating and developing a racing car for the Formula Student competitions. Ever since, the team has grown and strengthened, achieving notable victories in similar competitions of Portugal, Spain and Romania.

BlueStreamline, the only team in Europe that has participated in all editions of Formula Student Spain, benefits from the financial support of Transilvania University of Brașov and some private companies of Brașov, which thus encourage students to materialize their innovative ideas.
