Chamber Jazz@Transilvania University| Răzvan Florescu and Vlad Briciu

The duo consisting of the vibraphonist Răzvan Florescu and the pianist Vlad Briciu came to light out of desire to explore the improvisational and interplay possibilities of the two music instruments, the project being based on their own repertoire and shared experience within other projects.

Răzvan Florescu graduated from the National University of Music (UNMB) of Bucharest with a master's degree in jazz, under Prof. Dr. Mircea Tiberian’s guidance, and previously with a bachelor's degree in percussion. He currently is a percussion teacher at no. 5 Secondary School of Arts of Bucharest and “George Enescu” National College of Music. Between 2018 and 2019, he benefited from an ERASMUS+ scholarship, having the opportunity to study at Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, Czech Republic. He has a vast concert activity as a soloist, but also as a part of chamber music ensembles (Luiza Zan Quintet, RVQ, PERCUSSIONescu, TUMBE, etc.), both in Romania and in Europe (France, Germany, Russia, Czech Republic). He has also collaborated with some of the most important orchestras in the country (National Radio Orchestra, “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra, Romanian Youth Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Sibiu, and more). Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards: Best Band Award at “Johnny Raducanu” 2023 International Jazz Festival (JazzQuarters), Excellence Scholarship offered by UNMB in 2021 and 2019, Best Composition Award at 2021 Jazz Competition of Sibiu (RVQ), the first prize under two categories within 2020 Jazz Competition of Iași for the best songwriting and the best performance (RVQ), the first prize at the Hungarian Music Festival in 2019 (PERCUSSIONescu), the second prize as a soloist under the chamber music section, and the special prize for the best Romanian music piece within "Dan Cumpata" Remember Enescu 2017 competition (PERCUSSIONescu), the 1st prize at 2016 Music Olympiad. Music records:In My Village – Luiza Zan Sextet (2023), Human Song – Sorina Rotaru (2023), Shapes – RVQ (2022), Chamber Creations and Concertante CD 59 - Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists in collaboration with the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society (2022), Daydream – RVQ (2020).

Vlad Briciu graduated from the National University of Music of Bucharest with a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition. He leads JazzQuarters Trio, with whom he has successfully participated in competitions such as “Johnny Răducanu” International Competition (first prize for ensembles), “Jazz in Park” International Competition (second prize), Jazz Napocensis (first prize, solo participation) and the Jazz Competition of Sibiu (jury award), and more. Distinguished with the Revelation of the Year award at the Jazz Awards Gala, he has had the privilege of performing within major jazz festivals all over the country: JazzX, Jazz in Park, Bucharest Jazz Festival, Csiki Jazz, Jazz at Bran Castle, Jazz on the Rooftop, Samfest Satu Mare, “Johnny Raducanu” Festival Contest. His compositions have been played by the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company (Radio Romania Cultural) within Pure Jazz series of concerts, and he has also contributed as a backing musician, arranger and co-composer to Luiza Zan’s jazz album “In My Village", recorded in 2023, as part of Luiza Zan Quintet, with whom he actively collaborates.
