Cyber Security, the new double-degree master’s study programme of UNITBV
30 June 2026
Starting with the 2026 – 2027 academic year, the master’s study programme Cyber Security, offered by Transilvania University’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, confers a double degree. This programme is developed in partnership with HES-SO – University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, the largest university of its kind in this country.
Through this agreement, the students will have the opportunity to obtain two internationally recognised master’s diplomas – one issued by UNITBV, and the other by HES-SO – thus benefiting from academic and professional expertise in two prestigious European academic systems.
The students interested in this double-degree programme will first take the regular admission competition at the host university, in the July 2026 session. Subsequently, the candidates who pursue this double-degree programme will undergo an additional selection stage, consisting of an interview conducted by a committee of academic teaching personnel from both universities, during the September admission session.
The programme entails the students’ simultaneous enrolment in both universities. Throughout the studies, the participants will spend one semester of academic mobility at the partner institution. Moreover, in the second study year’s second semester, dedicated to the students’ writing their dissertation, they will benefit from the joint supervision of two professors – one at UNITBV and one at HES-SO.
All didactic activities, both the ones taking place in Romania and the ones in Switzerland, will be conducted in English. The diploma issued by HES-SO will be available in both French and English.
The participation in this programme does not require additional tuition fees. The mobility costs will be covered through the Erasmus+ programme; and, as regards the period spent in Switzerland, the partner university will provide the students with accommodation in Lausanne, as well as with the coverage of any additional costs associated therewith.
For the first year of implementation, the programme will include 10 students admitted to UNITBV, and other 10 students admitted to HES-SO, with the number of participants to be re-evaluated depending on the interest in and development of the programme in the next years.
The partnership capitalises on the complementary expertise of the two institutions in the field of cybersecurity. as HES-SO is widely recognised for its applied education and research programmes in this field. At the same time, the coordinator of the master's programme on behalf of the Swiss university will be involved in organising Black Alps, one of the most important events dedicated to cybersecurity in the Alpine region.
The double-degree master’s study programme Cyber Security strengthens the internationalization strategy of Transilvania University of Brașov, and opens for students an educational experience of European level, specialised skills and great opportunities of professional insertion in an ever-expanding field.
